Pastor John Whitsett began his ministry at Lakeside Community Church in September of 2011 after almost twenty-five years of pastoral ministry. John grew up in the Kansas City and Oklahoma City areas, and attended Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma, graduating with a degree in Religion in 1980. It was there he met and married Angie, a native of Nacogdoches, Texas, who graduated with a degree in Elementary Education in 1982. John also has a Master’s from the Nazarene Theological Seminary and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry from Asbury Theological Seminary.
He and Angie have served four churches prior to coming to Lakeside—in Texas, California, North Carolina, and Oklahoma. They are the parents of two young adult sons. In addition to following the professional sports teams from his days in Kansas City--the Royals and Chiefs—John also enjoys the challenge of ministering in a rapidly changing culture and making the Bible’s timeless truth come alive in relevant, engaging, and readily applicable ways.
Melinda Runcie is our Pastor of Worship and Administration. Melinda has a heart for worship and a passion to see God glorified in every worship experience we share together as a body of believers. Her love for children and youth is also a big part of her leadership in this church as she leads the children’s and youth choirs. Melinda also heads up our new family worship hour: KidZone! She and her husband Doug lead the Music and Dramatic Arts Ministries at our church, including a dynamic Musical Drama presented to thousands in our community every year. In addition to those responsibilities, Melinda oversees and administrates all of the age group ministries offered in our church. Melinda and Doug have three children.
